What is Cerec?

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural colour of your other teeth.

The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a colour computer screen. From this image, the dentist designs the restoration. The Computer Aided Manufacturing unit takes over and automatically creates the ceramic restoration while the patient waits.

Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes 1-2 hours.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?

A tooth-coloured restoration means no more silver fillings discolouring smiles. Dentists no longer need to take impressions or create temporary crowns, or send them off to a laboratory, thereby eliminating the need for a second appointment.

The CEREC filing is natural-looking, anti-abrasive and plaque resistant.

Technology is changing our everyday lives. The CEREC system is a cutting-edge innovation in dental instruments. It allows dentists to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural - coloured ceramic fillings, saving patients time and inconvenience.

CEREC is a registered trademark of Sirona Dental Systems.
