A new, gentle, drill-free procedure is now available in our practice. It's the PrepStar Air Abrasion System which will increase your comfort and reduce anxiety during cavity preparation and other dental procedures. With the PrepStar Air abrasion system, you'll spend much less time in the dental chair. Procedures are so gentle -- and anaesthesia is seldom required -- it's possible to treat several teeth in one visit rather than having to schedule additional appointments. Since we're able to treat almost all our young patients with a new level of comfort without the need for even a mild anaesthetic injection, childhood anxiety about trips to the dentist can now be dealt with effectively.

The Wait is Over

The PrepStar Air Abrasion System produces a gentle air stream of microabrasive particles, delivered through a small handpiece that quickly and gently smooth away decay. The handpiece actually never makes direct contact with the tooth. Not only does the precision of air abrasion allow more healthy tooth structure to be conserved, it's now possible to treat decay at its earliest stages before more serious problems develop. Ideal for both restorative and cosmetic procedures, PrepStar quickly and comfortably prepares surfaces for composite resin fillings and is highly effective for cosmetic procedures such as veneers. It is also used for the removal of superficial discoloration, porcelain repair and in the application of preventive sealants in just seconds.

No Injection – Treatment time reduced

With the PrepStar Air Abrasion System, the uncomfortable vibrations, friction and heat of the dental drill are eliminated. Since there's no heat or direct contact to jar sensitive nerves, very seldom is the dreaded ’jab’ necessary for numbing. And, since anaesthesia is usually not required, much less time in the dental chair is required. Without the heat and vibration of the drill, PrepStar air abrasion eliminates the major discomforts associated with cavity preparation. Because air abrasion is so gentle on tooth enamel, the possibility of micro -fracturing or chipping is also eliminated. The microscopic size particles used in the PrepStar Air Abrasion System have long been used in medicine and food. Completely safe, the pure alumina oxide particles are biocompatible and similar to those found in toothpaste whiteners.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY AND INTRA-ORAL IMAGING

Many of our surgeries are now equipped with digital sensors which further reduce the already tiny and safe doses of x-radiation used in the diagnosis of dental disease. There is also an added efficiency in the images being instantly available on our patients' computer records. Intra-oral cameras are locatied in some surgeries and in hygienist rooms - these can provide patients with graphic images of concerns that the dental team have with their mouths and also act as valuable educational tools.
